Since 1999, she has owned a business that she founded - For The Record Photography & Public Affairs, Inc. - which specializes in fundraising, communications and photography for Members of Congress, Non-Profit Organizations, Associations, Corporations, and Government in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Region.

She passionately believes in that old saying: Do what you love, love what you do. Based on that belief she made a leap of faith in creating her own business, and 12 years later, continues to provide quality services, strategies and photography for her clients. A former television reporter, she employs a photo-journalistic style and professional, creative approach to each and every image. Story-telling is at the heart of what she does and it is what sets her apart from the pack.

Kim Simpson describes her philosphy, approach and background this way: "Each of us sees the world in a different way. For most of my life, I've been photographing people, places and things. A broad body of my work - my 'take' on the world - has emerged during the past 20 years. I provide a sampling of that work here: portraits, events, musicians, animals, architecture, streetscapes, landscapes, and still-life. I consider my origins to be that of a "traditional" photographer, preferring Black and White Fine Art Silver Gelatin Prints (Selenium-Toned). For more than a decade I performed my own black and white printing in the Smithsonian Institute's darkroom beneath the Mall in Washington, DC. In addition to printing the 'old fashioned way', in trays of chemicals, I did my own toning and re-touching by hand - usually in batches of 6-10 prints (typically, on Ilford Fiber Paper, or Ilford Resin Coated (RC) Paper). Nothing compares with watching a dramatic black and white image appear in a tray of developer.

Well, almost nothing. The advent of the Internet, Digital Phtography, and the Digital Darkroom has forever changed the face of photography - even for 'die-hard' traditionalists like me. It is an exciting time. Archival quality printers, Adobe Photoshop Software, and high quality digital cameras are contributing to broadened creative horizons - and reduced production time, whether you are launching photos for a website, a magazine cover, or a family's living room wall.

I partner with my clients to preserve their memories with style and quality crafstmanship. Every time I pick up my camera, develop a Black and White print, or edit a color image in Photoshop, I remind myself: In photography the sky is the limit. The only limitation is the breadth and depth of one's imagination."
